In Loving Memory
We gather our thoughts in humble remembrance of Brian Lorenzo Elario, a man of profound faith, meticulous craft, and enduring devotion to his family. Brian passed away peacefully on September 1, 2019, at the age of 76, leaving behind a legacy defined by quiet strength and professional excellence.
Born on April 29, 1943, in Bryant Street within the historic Bo-Kaap of Cape Town, Brian was the youngest of three brothers. His formative years were spent navigating the vibrant streets of the old historical District Six, where he attended Sidney Street Primary School. These early experiences in the heart of Cape Town shaped the character of a man who would later be known for his reliability and deep-seated values.
At the age of 19, Brian met the love of his life, Iris (Angie) Helena Leite. Their journey together officially began on June 17, 1966, when they wed, a union that flourished for over five decades. Together, they raised three children; two daughters and a son. Brian eventually stepped into the role he held so dear: a proud grandfather to four granddaughters and one grandson.
In his professional life, Brian was a true artisan. He dedicated his entire career to the printing industry, where he became a highly respected and sought-after stencil cutter. In an era before the automation of computer technology, Brian’s work required an extraordinary level of skill, patience, and attention to detail.
His talent earned him the respect of his peers and saw him complete significant projects for major printing establishments and corporate entities across the region. He represented a generation of craftsmen whose hands-on expertise formed the backbone of the industry.
A devout Christian, Brian was a stalwart member of the New Apostolic Church. His faith was the cornerstone of his life, providing him with a moral compass and a community of fellow worshippers whom he cherished. Whether through his presence in the congregation or his daily walk of life, he remained a steadfast follower of his beliefs until the very end.
The latter years of Brian’s life were marked by a courageous battle with cardiovascular health. Despite undergoing significant procedures, including an aortic repair at Groote Schuur Hospital and a quadruple bypass at Vincent Palotti Hospital, he faced his physical frailty with dignity. Even as he navigated the complexities of chronic hypertension and vascular dementia, his spirit remained resilient.
Final Resting Place
Brian passed away peacefully at False Bay Hospital in Fish Hoek. His funeral service was held on September 6, 2019, at the Sun Valley New Apostolic Church, officiated by Rector and Priest Grant Herman. His ashes are currently awaiting future interment.
